very cool

Just got a fresh install of Office 2004 for the Mac (at work).

This software rocks. I admit it, I am not a huge fan of M$, but they did some really nice things with Word. Notebook view allows you to outline your notes (much like OmniOutliner, which I love); you can also record audio and it associates with the text you’re creating at the time of recording.

I’m still playing with it, but I think I’m really going to like some of these new features. Does anyone else have experience with Office 2004? Are there other cool things I should play with?

Notebook view is great for classroom notes (I use it), but don’t try it for outlining when the time comes. It’s just not as versatile.

Try playing around with the Project feature, though, in Entourage. You can associate tasks and documents and keep track of all of your big projects and keep yourself on task. It’s an OCD-organizer’s dream!

Not sure about 2004 on the Mac, but 2003 for PC’s had a couple of items worth mentioning. Outlook has a new feature where a small tag appears on your desktop letting you know about and email. The tag fades into the background over five seconds. I like having the feature to know whether to get into email while working on something else. OneNote is pretty cool. I know some people use if for note taking in LS. I didn’t notice too many significant improvements to the other apps, but then again I did not go looking. I have to use excel and PowerPoint daily, the last thing I want to do is go into the program to play.
