oh crap

Despite what the countdown on the right says, Moving Day #1 actually starts next Friday. We have not started boxing stuff up. We have not reserved a moving van. We are totally unprepared.

Help!

Update: I reserved a moving van this morning. $19.95 for a fourteen-footer, plus (gasp!) a dollar a mile. Thank goodness the new apartment is only a mile and a half from the house. Still to do: stop by liquor store and beg for boxes. Check dumpster area at work for paper boxes. Actually start putting things IN boxes. Oh boy.

I’d come help you pack, but, um, well … I’ve got exams. Good luck!

Suggestion: Buy a bunch of same-size boxes at Office Depot or someplace like that. Why buy boxes, you ask? A couple reasons:

1) If you have a bunch of boxes all the same size you can pack your truck *much* more easily. They also make it easier to store unopened boxes in closets or elsewhere.

2) If you’re moving a couple of times in the near future (and you are), getting good boxes will pay off. The boxes you buy set up easily and then, when you’ve finished your first move, you can collapse them again and pile them under your bed or something. Then, in a month or three when you’re ready to move again, look! you’ve got boxes!

Is it worth the expense? I dunno, but it has worked well for us in our, um three moves in the last two years.
