movin’ on up
Mr. Angst and I booked plane tickets yesterday for an apartment-hunting trip to Our New City. (We got a good deal, too! Exciting!)
So now we just have to figure out where in town we most want to look. And get in touch with the locator services we’ve contacted to set up appointments, etc. And nail down an approximate budget. Sigh.
Three weeks ago, I was excited about looking for apartments for the fall. But now, having gone through the home sale and one move, the last thing I want to consider is moving again.
Things I’ll definitely be taking with me on our trip:
Tape measure
Dimensions of all our furniture
Digital camera
Hopefully I’ll be more excited about all this in five and a half weeks, when we leave. I need some down time.

I used to live in Your New City. Near the “Other” School.
Watch out for some of the “locator” services in our fair city. Many of them will deliberately show you bad places on the “low end” of your budget range in order to push you to the higher end of the range… when I first moved here, I used one and it was a *total* bust. I ended up doing *much* better by using the apartment finder service set up by the local indie newspaper. It’s pretty good, although hard to do from TX.
E-mail me if you want that info or if you have any questions about ‘hoods, prices, etc.
Good luck!
Yeah, I’m being wary. The services I’m using right now are both specifically geared toward students at my future school (although one seems to focus on the area right around the school and the other wants to push owning rather than renting, which isn’t really an option for us right now).
I will also be looking in that indie paper. We’ll have two full days, so I’m hoping we can do appointments in the morning or afternoon of both days and then have the other half days to look at places we’ve scouted out on our own.
At least, that’s the plan.
Digital camera! Brilliant idea. I’m about to take a trip with Mr. Yaya to our new city for the same torture you are speaking of. I thought of the measuring tape, but not the camera.
Cheers! Moving sucks! And BTW, I’m pretty sure that I live in a suburb near you. I’m glad the smoking ban passed.
