what’s the matter with the work ethic in this country???
Let me tell you all the ways FedEx sucks.
FedEx Ground did not make my delivery today. My package was on a truck early this morning. But no one dropped a package off to the office during the day and no one came to our door this evening. There was no door tag showing an attempted delivery. Yet, when I called FedEx, I was told, by a very nice young lady, that a delivery attempt had been made and my package was going back to the distribution center.
Hm. I think he just skipped me. What do you think?
So I asked if I could just have the package held at the center so I could pick it up tomorrow.
Um, no. FedEx Ground is, get this, “required” to make three delivery attempts before they can hold the package for pickup. So I asked if I could have it delayed until Saturday, when I know one of us can be home all day.
She said, “I can put in a request for that, but I can’t guarantee it.”
Um, OK.
So the best I could do was put in a request to have it delivered tomorrow before 7pm. If it gets here during the day, the office can sign for it; if it gets here before our Aikido class, I’ll be here to take it.
I hope.
I hate HATE HATE FedEx right now. I want to write a nice, nasty letter to whoever is in charge of drivers here in My Fair City and tell them that their driver in charge of my neighborhood is an asshole and took off early to get a drink, rather than deliver my package, my package which has a pricey piece of electronic equipment tucked inside.
(For the record, Mr. Angst was here while I was at choir rehearsal and had to run down the street to drop some stuff off at the storage unit, and while he was on the way, he saw a FedEx Ground truck going in the opposite direction of our apartment. Just so you know this isn’t just the anger talking. But the anger, the anger is there.)

I’ve had the *exact* same experience with FedEx Ground… keep in mind, “FedEx Ground” was actually RPS (who sucked!) until FedEx acquired them as a subsidiary–to compete primarily with UPS in the low cost package delivery arena. They share some key infrastructure points, but it’s my understanding they actually use many different distribution centers, drivers, etc. Oh, and their drivers are not employees–they are independent contractors.
The result: consumers get stuck with crappy service while most businesses sending overnight/2nd day air *real* FedEx still get great service.
It’s been 5 years since the acquisition, so you would think they’d have their s*** together by now… but they don’t.
It really depends on the neighborhood. For some, UPS sucked more than FedEx, and for others, FedEx service was worse than UPS. Some people have pleasant experience with both, others receive broken packages.
Vendors also hate the hassle of filling out one of these lengthy claims forms too. Grrr… Those painful memories…
FedEx SUCKS. I never buy anything online that can only be shipped by FedEx.
Its been almost 2 months. I’ve made more than a dozen phone calls and spoken with more reps.
I won a mint condition Les Paul Studio model guitar in an ebay auction. The seller promptly sent the guitar after receiving my payment for the guitar, shipping, handling and insurance. The seller took the guitar to his local FedEx/ Kinko’s store where it was boxed and shipped. It arrived in damaged condition. Attempts were made to repair damages to the box with packaging tape. Initials were made with a grease pencil/ marker near the repair site. I called the FedEx customer support number. After giving the tracking number, the rep told me the box had been “damaged in a machine.” The rep said FedEx would need to witness the damage to the guitar at the local terminal. That seemd odd. The rep told me how the package had been damaged. Initials had been made by someone. FedEx knew of the damage to this item. I was reluctant to give the guitar back to them. After assurances from 2 reps that the guitar would be returned to me, I relinquished possession of the guitar. That was on October 5, 2005. That was the last I saw of the guitar. Tracking the package and talking to FedEx customer support reps has placed the guitar back in California where it is “lost” or “stolen.” I filed a claim for the loss. FedEx said they did not know the shippers name only the location where the package had been shipped. However, they could not discuss the matter further because I was the ‘receiver’ not the ’shipper.’ Too bad for me it seems. That’s all FedEx has offered. In the spirit of let me help you give support to me, I provided the name of the seller/ shipper, address, phone number, ebay transaction number, etc. Today, one month after the guitar had been “lost” or “stolen” I received a letter from FedEx denying my claim. FedEx has lied. They don’t deliver. I can not recommend FedEx to anyone. A guy in a ski mask with a gun is more credible than the liars at FedEx. Mr. Magoo will find my guitar before those frauds and bufoons will. Now, I want to get the word out about the deceit and obfuscation. FedEx; Fed Up!
