might as well just forget about

The say you should feed a cold (and starve a fever). I find this problematic, since absolutely nothing tastes like anything. Also, I (me! foodblogger! food lover! sort-of foodie!) would, right now, rather lie on the couch moaning than think about putting anything in my mouth besides cool, fresh water.

And, oh yeah, I have moot court again tonight. Yeah, it’s gonna rock.

February 7th 2007

you like me! you really, really like me!

Oh, yeah.

Sometime last night (at least, sometime before midnight), this blog received it’s 100,000th visitor! Yay!

Unfortunately, since I was in Moot Court and was then at home, drugging myself into a stupor so I could sleep, I forgot to check my stats. And since then, I’ve had more than 100 hits, so I can’t go back and see who that visitor was. Sorry. I usually like to give a prize to that visitor. (No, not really. I can’t back that up.)

Anyway, I think it’s pretty exciting that I’ve crossed into 6-digit territory. I mean, I’m not Althouse or anything, with something like a million hits a month, but I hold my own. And I’m proud of that, dammit.

Moot Court Countdown: A Light at the End of the Tunnel

I meant to post this last night, but oh well. We now have a winning record in Moot Court, and are feverishly preparing (yeah, right) for tomorrow night’s round. Tomorrow night is the last “free” round. Meaning, we can probably lose tomorrow night and yet go on to the next round. After tomorrow night, though, one loss means good-bye, baby.

All in all, so far, it’s been a pretty good experience. I’ve had some fun, and I’ve had some not fun. I’ve had panels I liked and panels I wasn’t sure about and I’ve had at least one judge who just plain baffled me. I’ve learned that I tend to be a little passive when I’m arguing and I need to avoid that. And I talk with my hands too much, but I knew that already.

Basically, it looks like I’ll still be doing this next week, which is in some ways really cool and in other ways (like, I’m going to have to keep leaving my Thursday night seminar early) not so cool. In the end, I think I’ll be glad I did it.

drip, drip, drip

How much Sudafed is too much? I’m trying to dry my sinuses out completely by 7:30, and I’m not having much luck. Because, see, yesterday, I had a completely unblowable nose; today, it’s unbelieveably drippy. But nothing I seem to do makes it stop dripping.

Wow. Maybe I HAVE had enough Sudafed. That was more information that anyone needed.

revenge of the body, or something like that

It seems impossible, but between 8:45 this morning and about 1:30 this afternoon, I developed a full-on cold. One nostril is completely unusable, the brain under my forehead hurts, and everything is sort of fuzzy around the edges.

I’m hoping the rapid onset means rapid offset, as it were, as I have oral arguments again tomorrow night. Also, I have work to do for my classes. Both of these will be negatively affected by the worthless nostril and the fuzzy edges. I can work through the headache, at least.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to figure out what caused this sudden bout of sicky-wicky. I suspect the general stress of the last two weeks has my immune system on the run and the straw that broke the camel’s back was actually having to leave the house today when it was -7 degrees. My body was fighting it off, but probably just barely, and then I had to go and subject it to THAT stress. I mean, I’ve been so stressed lately that I’m surprised the shock of the cold didn’t make my hair all fall out. I guess I should consider myself lucky that all I’m dealing with is a cold.

brr

You know how I know it’s cold?

Because when I took the dog out and my breath fogged up my glasses, the condensation froze on my glasses. Glasses + ice = limited visibility.

I guess it’s a good thing we’re only supposed to have one more really cold day. 20 degrees is going to feel downright balmy.

February 3rd 2007

unreasonable weather

It is insanely cold here today. In some ways, this is good–I can’t really go anywhere, so I’m more inclined to get work done. In other ways, it’sbad–I don’t really want to do any work because I’m so cold, even in our apartment.

February 2nd 2007

good things and bad things

Good thing: Hearing Mr. Chief Justice speak. Seriously.

Bad thing: Getting up at 6:45 on a day when I don’t have class till noon for that pleasure.

Good thing: Nearby high-end department store’s going out of business sale.

Bad thing: Carrying home my new loot in when it feels like -4 degrees.

Good thing: Fun dinner plans with friends at (reportedly) good Mexican joint.

Bad thing: Having to leave the house when it’s only getting colder. And not being able to wear my new loot because it’s too cold.

Moot Court Countdown (again)

Round 2: Applied lessons learned last time. Paid off. Now to try for a winning record.

observation

I just realized I’m in two classes this semester with cold-calling. That’s kind of weird.
